The State of Alabama requires a license to practice applied behavior analysis (ABA). Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts who wish to provide services in Alabama should complete the application process as described in the instructions available below. A license is not required for Registered Behavior Technicians.
Become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst
Before you can become licensed, you need to have an active certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®). This certification requires a college degree, specific coursework, supervision, and successful completion of the certification exam. Renew Your License

- Licenses are active for up to 2 years depending on the date when your license is issued; all licenses expire on December 31 of the year following the year when issued.
- For example: If your license is issued any time in 2025, your license will expire on December 31, 2026. If your license is issued any time in 2026, your license will expire on December 31, 2027. etc.
- The deadline for renewal is December 15 - after this date a $50 late fee will apply. There is a 45 day reinstatement period for before your license expires and a new initial license application must be submitted.

- Agencies and individuals can verify an individual’s licensure status by emailing the board or checking our list of Active Licenses: CURRENT ROSTER
- Should a licensee not appear on this list, they may either be inactive OR have opted out of the public directory. Additionally, they could have received licensure after this list was generated. You may email us at balicense.mh@mh.alabama.gov to confirm the status of a licensee that is NOT on this list.

- Use the form below to file a complaint about a licensee. After we receive the complaint, we will contact you to confirm the receipt. The Alabama Behavior Analyst Advisory Council will review the matter at the next scheduled meeting to determine how to proceed.
