The Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards (ACCMHB) will soon host their
35th statewide training conference and tradeshow. The 2009 Conference will be held
May
13-14, 2009, in the East Meeting Rooms of the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center in
Birmingham. The event will kick-off with a keynote address by two national speakers
on the subject of “Future Trends in Behavioral Health Care.”
The two-day conference will include a comprehensive program which will feature 60
workshop tracks on topics such as autism, administration, adolescent co-occurring
disorders, children’s mental health, clinical and geriatric issues, substance abuse,
and more. Continuing Education credits are available for the following disciplines:
psychology, counseling, social work, marriage/family therapy, alcohol/drug abuse,
nursing, and nursing home administration. A complete list of topics and speakers can

Mental health professionals, board members, juvenile justice professionals, educators,
consumers, family members, and many other audiences are encouraged to attend. More than
900 people attended the 2008 conference, and the council expects even greater participation
this year. In addition, more than 40 exhibitors and sponsors will also participant in this
year’s conference.
ACCMHB has recently extended the conference Early Bird Special rate of $155 to register.
This rate will run until April 20th, and the cost of the two-day conference will then go
to $180.00 after April 20th. The costs for the conference includes lunch each day and
Continuing Education credits. They have also extended the special rate cut-off date for
hotel reservations until April 20th.
