In support of the mission of the Alabama Department
of Mental Health, the Office of Staff Development is
committed to the quality and effectiveness of our staff
and to the services they provide. It is our continuing
effort to prepare our department to meet the challenges
of the future through the development and facilitation of
training and educational programs and activities that build
competencies and create an organizational culture for
successful mental health practice. This office serves as the
central repository for all employee training records, in
addition to providing support for the department’s state
facilities and hospitals, Community Services offices, and the department’s
central administrative offices.

Continuing Education |
Our Continuing Education programs provide on-site and other
accessible opportunities for staff to keep current in their
respective disciplines/fields, as well as provide a continuous
opportunity for maintaining professional licensures and certifications. The Alabama Department of Mental Health is an approved provider of
continuing education in the following disciplines:
Nursing, Social Work and Psychology.

Community Education |
The Office of Staff Development is the central control point for
facilitation and coordination of numerous community education programs.
This office also assists in the planning of various other public offerings
in order to make continuing education available for mental health
professionals in the community.
